Eat & Drink

Breakfast at
the Rincon Beach Resort is a delightful experience. The
restaurant has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. You can eat inside, or
alfresco, on the garden terrace. A breakfast buffet is beautifully
laid out. You have your choice of a continental breakfast and a
continental buffet, or you can order a full breakfast from the menu.
The Rincon
Breakfast, an omelet with Spanish sausage and peppers, is the morning
signature dish. We had our favorite, the All-American which consists
of eggs, ham and potatoes, accompanied by local French-style bead and
a delicious eye-opening "café con leche". Our eggs were cooked exactly
as ordered and the presentation was quite appetizing and in concert
with the surroundings. The service is very good and management keeps a
roving eye on things to make sure that everyone is having a good
experience. The
Rincon Beach Resort
is a
great place for any meal. For more about this resort and its
charms, see our
lodging review.

When we
arrived at the Horned Dorset Primavera for lunch, we were
running behind schedule. Wilhelm Sack, the always gracious and
charming General Manager, didn’t mention it as he personally escorted
us to our lovely seaside table. Behind us, the recently-added Villas
soared into the Caribbean sky.
Our lunch
began with a properly-chilled shrimp cocktail, served with a heavenly
mango sauce. It was followed by an "Asopao de Pollo"
(chicken
and rice soup) that was simply delicious. We were then served a
tender, juicy filet of beef, with vegetables and a side dish of "Arroz
con Habichuelas" (rice and beans). To drink, we ordered a still water
from San Pelegrino, as we wanted to enjoy the wonderful flavors that
we were experiencing. Just when we though that lunch could not have
been better, a perfect Crème Brule was place before us, along with an
excellent Puerto Rican "café con leche". Overtaken by the
beauty and elegance of our surroundings, we sat and
lingered in a state of tropical grace, as fishing skiffs and snorkel divers glided over the glassy
sea. When lunch was over, we were given a tour of the Blue Room a new
bistro addition and of the lovely gardens in the new Villas area. We
have been eating at the
Horned Dorset Primavera since 1992, and remain
pleasantly surprised about the fact that we’ve never had a single
glitch in any of our many dining experiences.
The Black Eagle
Restaurant is legendary Rincon landmark and not only for its food. When it opened
in the early seventies, it was the talk of the town. The Black Eagle
served great seafood and steaks, and the music was always great.
People traveled from afar to enjoy the relaxed, tropical ambience and
hung around the bar long after dinner was over.

Today, you can
relive those days, with some improvements. The Spot at The
Black Eagle now has a new outdoor
bar lets you see the spectacular Rincon sunsets without having to
get up from your stool. This happy bar is
headed by the quintessential and legendary Rincon barkeep, Jim
Behr, who is the proud owner of
Pelican Estate
Inn. While the changes that have been made are all very nice, the most
important one is that the food is better than ever.
We had a delicious
pork tenderloin, a signature dish. The rack of lamb is probably the
best on the island. The fresh fish and lobster are also deliciously
prepared. While the New York Strip is a local favorite, the Filet was
our favorite steak. We recommend arriving before sunset. Bring your
cameras.
Mitch and Amy, late of
The Spot at Sandy Beach and the Calypso Grill, are now practicing their culinary
magic at the The Black Eagle Restaurant. Open for dinner, except
Tuesdays during the season. Call 787-823-3510 for specials and reservations.
